Table Top Buyers Guide
If your business requires table tops, contact The Contract Chair Company. On this page is pretty much all the table top information and advice we believe you'll need to make an informed decision about what table top style and type to purchase - but please do call us with any questions you have; we are on freephone 0800 8494 135.

Once you've settled on a budget for your project (please contact us if you need help with an estimate), table top choices are mainly about materials and durability. Edge detailing can be important, and of course the tops have to fit onto an appropriate base (see our Pedestal Table Buyers Guide). If your table tops will be used outside, please see our Outdoor Table Top Buyers Guide.
Wood Table Top
Solid Wood tops, usually oak, ash or walnut, look fabulous and can often be stained to match your décor.
Custom table tops can be made in wood or wood veneers to you own designs and finished to your exact specification.
For some environments, a veneered wood table top is most appropriate; large veneered tops won't warp or split and give a finer finish. For a tougher environment, or tighter budgets, wood-effect laminate table tops can provide the appropriate appearance and many restaurant table tops that look like solid wood are actually a man-made laminate.
Remember that although round table tops look great, are space-saving and have no corners to bruise you, they cannot be pushed together to make bigger tables in the way that square and rectangular tables can.
Man-made Table Tops

Laminate table tops and Melamine table tops come in a rainbow of colours; typically round, square or rectangular, they can have edges that match or contrast, or metal edges. These tops are ideal for modern, bold schemes, or a clean white finish gives a hygenic feel. Werzalit tops, protectively sealed against most causes of damage, offer an almost infinite variety of choices.
Glass Table Tops

Clever glue-bonding techniques can invisibly bond metal bases to the underside of glass table tops and square or round table tops look modern and sleek. Nonetheless, we reckon that even tempered glass is suited to lower-impact environments.
Compact Table Tops

Compact table tops (aka compact laminate table tops) are the new arrival on the scene - but will certainly stick around. Made with the same materials as durable laminate surfaces - but on these, the laminate goes the whole way through. This makes them really tough, but they are also loved because they are so slim - often only 10mm thick, which, combined with a chamfered edge, gives them a really sleek appearance. Tops can be specified in different colours to the solid cores, and a layed-effect (with aluminium layers in a dark core) looks very striking
Outdoor Table Tops

Many table tops are suitable for outdoor use - see our Outdoor Table Tops buyers guide for Teak table tops, Werzalit table tops, stainless steel, granite, marble, environmentally-friendly bamboo, quartz and polyethylene table tops.
A Table Top for Table Cloth Covering
If your table tops are always covered with a table cloth, have you considered a table top for a table cloth - a top that has a softer surface, giving the impression of an undercloth? It could slash your cleaning costs.
Folding Table Tops

Short of space? Easy to use and quick to store folding table tops (used with nesting table bases) might be your answer.
If there is a specific type of table top you require that isn't listed here, please don't hesitate to call us on freephone 0800 8494 135; we will be happy to help.
