Question 1

Do you sell to the general public?

Accepted Answer

We supply furniture for commercial projects, not domestic – even if we stock the item you want for your home, or even if you’re a designer working on a residential project, unfortunately, we will not be able to take you on as a client. This is due to a number of factors including minimum order volume, transport costs from our European manufacturers, and the fact that we cannot accept returned orders as everything we supply is made to order.

Question 2

What is contract furniture?

Accepted Answer

In simple terms, contract furniture is any furniture that is used in a commercial environment.

Contract furniture is used by businesses and in commercial spaces. That can range from offices and coworking spaces to restaurants, pubs, and cafes – from hotels to sporting arenas to airports, to… you get the picture. If it’s not for your home we are happy to help you outfit it with beautiful, well-designed, hard-wearing furniture.

Contract furniture is generally more durable so it can withstand heavy use and it’s reasonably easy to maintain. It’s built to different specifications than your residential furniture with extra reinforcement such as screws and dowels at primary joints. Contract furniture is typically made to order which means you have a much broader range of finishes and design options when choosing the right furniture.

Contract furniture also has to comply with health and safety requirements. This includes things like the Martindale fabric abrasion test, to prove the durability of a fabric to a minimum number of rubs. Or, the British Standards for Flammability, also known as Crib 5 – a standard for materials and furniture. The standard does not require furniture to be fireproof, but if a flame does ignite it’s likely to die out more quickly and is less likely to spread.

Question 3

Do you have a showroom?

Accepted Answer

Of course! We have a showroom in Hammersmith, London that is equipped to showcase a broad range of our products to fit your design projects. We have over 500 chair samples, thousands of wood, metal and fabric swatches, extensive options for tables tops and table bases, and bespoke samples, all to help guide you in your decisions for your next commercial design project.

We’re located at 135 Glenthorne Road, London, U.K., W6 0LJ, just a short walk from Ravenscourt Station. Driving in? Use our free on-site parking.

Visitors will need an appointment to view the showroom. Please email us at contact@thecontractchair.co.uk or call 020 8735 6000 to book an appointment.

Question 4

What sectors do you serve?

Accepted Answer

Contract furniture is the furniture used by businesses and for commercial purposes. At The Contract Chair Company, we supply furniture to the following sectors of the commercial and hospitality industry. If you have a commercial project that does not fit within these sectors, give us a shout and we will work with you to help bring your vision to life.

Question 5

What is ISO 14001, and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

We’re proud to hold ISO 14001 certification. This milestone is more than just a box-ticking exercise for us. It reflects our commitment to cut waste, improve efficiency, and stay ahead of environmental regulations.
You can verify our ISO certificate here. (ISO certificate number: 250605)

Question 7

I have a complaint, who do I contact?

Accepted Answer

We're happy to help you sort out any issues you may have before, during, or after your order has been made. Simply contact us via the chat bubble on our homepage by phone at 020 8735 6000 or contact your sales representative if it's an order-related issue.

Question 8

Is your consultation service free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our consultation service is free, and you don’t need to place an order to use it. We can join your project at any stage, from early concept through to final specification. We’ll help shape the furniture scheme around your space, budget and timeline, plan layouts to make the most of your floor plan, and find ways to hit the look you want within budget. We also guide you through fire compliance, fabric testing and when bespoke makes more sense than customising existing designs, so there are no surprises later. And we’ll set realistic lead times so the furniture lands in line with your programme.

Question 9

What are your lead times?

Accepted Answer

Lead times depend on the product and how it’s specified. Choices like fabric, finish and any customisation all play a part, so the same chair can have a different lead time from one project to the next. If you’re working to a tight schedule, let us know your deadline early and we’ll help you find products that can be delivered in time, whether that’s a different specification, a similar alternative or something from our Quick Ship range. Lead times are shown on our product pages, and our team can confirm them for your exact specification.

Question 10

Do you rent furniture?

Accepted Answer

We do not currently rent furniture. Our showroom displays a cross-section of products we offer, but as our goods are made to order we don't keep enough inventory available on-site to support furniture rentals.
So, you might be saying to yourself “But you deal with contract furniture. How does ‘contract’ not mean that it’s for rent?” Contract furniture is furniture that’s used in a commercial setting. To learn more jump to the FAQ about “What is contract furniture?”

Question 11

How much lead time do you need for an order?

Accepted Answer

Estimated lead times are specified separately for each product. As the orders are priced based on one consolidated delivery to you the product with the longest lead time dictates the overall lead time of the project. The lead time starts once the order has been confirmed. Click here to learn more about the order timeline.

If you’re working toward a specific delivery date you can filter your searches on the product category pages based on lead times so that you don’t miss your project deliverables.

Lead times may vary depending on the order size, complexity, or customizations. Supply chain interruptions can also affect how quickly an order can be completed, however, the lead times on our site are regularly updated to accurately reflect current lead times from our suppliers.

Question 12

Are your lead times accurate?

Accepted Answer

Yes, all the lead times listed on our website are regularly updated.

If you have an emergency and need a product expedited so it’s delivered faster than shown on our website please fill out our contact form or email us at sales@thecontractchair.co.uk

We will do our best to accommodate your request.

Question 13

How long does it take to ship within the mainland UK?

Accepted Answer

Question 14

How long does it take to ship within Europe?

Accepted Answer

For orders within Europe, your goods will be dispatched directly from our suppliers. It typically takes 1 week for your order to arrive at your shipping address. These timelines are estimates and are subject to change depending on factors such as inclement weather. Speak with your sales representative regarding precise shipping times for your order.

20% VAT will be charged.

Question 22

Collection from our UK Warehouse

Accepted Answer

20% VAT will be charged

Question 23

Delivery to a foreign (i.e. non-UK) address

Accepted Answer

Your invoice will be zero rated – you will not have to pay VAT to us.

Question 24

Collection from our UK warehouse with an intention to send the goods abroad.

Accepted Answer

20% VAT will be charged, but it can be refunded when we are provided with a Proof of Delivery of the goods at a foreign address.

Question 25

Special Scenario: Delivery from one of our EU factories directly to an address in another EU country.

Accepted Answer

Our default process is to consolidate orders in our UK warehouse, then deliver anywhere in the world. But in exceptional situations (not least if time is short), we may consider arranging a delivery directly from our EU based factories to an address in another EU country.

In such a case, the goods do not leave the EU, but still cross country borders, therefore VAT can be zero rated – subject to the following conditions:

We must be provided with your VAT number in the destination country.
We must have confirmation that you have a VAT number in the destination country before we confirm the final quotation for the order.

A VAT number for the purchaser of the goods, registered in the delivery country, must be provided prior to ordering. If you do not have a VAT number in the destination country, we will have to charge you the VAT of the destination country.

Note: If goods are coming from multiple factories, the delivery will not be consolidated. Customer will receive a separate delivery from each of our factories.

Once your furniture selection is complete you can request a quote to lock in your price. Quotes are valid for 30 days.

Question 43

Do I get a volume discount?

Accepted Answer

Prices will change based on how many units you’ve chosen and usually you will find that unit price comes down with higher quantities.

The economies of scale are usually achieved through saving on transportation costs. Also, some factories have discount policies tied to order value and we pass those savings on to you! So where this applies the reduced cost will also be automatically reflected in the price you see.

Question 44

How do I request a quote?

Accepted Answer

At the bottom right of your Project, next to the Project total price you can click “Request Quotation.”

This will open a new window where you can add or modify the delivery address and add additional comments before submitting it to our accounts team for review.

Question 45

Why would I request a quote if I can see the live price?

Accepted Answer

There are four main reasons why you would want to request a quote, even though we display dynamic pricing on our website.

Freeze your price for 30 days: With dynamic pricing on the website, the prices shift from time to time. We can prepare a quote for you that’s valid for 30 days.
You’ve added a “Suggested Product”: When you add suggested products to your projects we need to source and price them separately. Requesting a quote will give you the precise price for the products you’re requesting.
You’ve added notes or non-standard customisations: Some customisations on the product pages will generate an updated price automatically, but if you want to go off-script and customise your choices further we will need to prepare a quote to address your requests. Dynamic pricing does not account for non-standard customisations.
Automatic delivery cost is not available: Our system allows for some automatic delivery cost calculations (See FAQ: Does the total price shown in Projects include delivery costs?), but if your delivery requirements don’t fall within those parameters we will need to quote the delivery price separately.

Question 46

How long will it take to receive a formal quotation?

Accepted Answer

To achieve guaranteed prices, all of our formal quotes go through manual checks, therefore they need a bit of time to turn around.

We can typically get back to you with a formal quotation within one (1) working day. If the account manager needs to clarify anything on your quote request they will be in touch within one (1) working day.

Question 47

Where can I find my quotes?

Accepted Answer

You can find your quotes in “My Quotations” where you’ll be able to see the Project name, request date, issue date, status, number of items, expiry date, and total price at a glance. Click into your quotation to view the full line-by-line breakdown with specifications, customisations and notes.

My Quotations can be found by clicking on the My Projects 📁 icon. Or visit your quotes from here.

Question 48

Can I cancel a quotation request?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When you’ve submitted a quote on your Projects you will see “Quotation Requested” at the bottom of the screen next to the total, along with two additional buttons - “Review” and “Cancel.”

“Review” will open a window with current, and previous versions of your quotes where you can view or cancel requests.

“Cancel,” as the name implies, means you can cancel the quote request directly from the Project page.

Question 49

Does the total price shown in Projects include delivery costs?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you’ve added Delivery to your project, but there are certain caveats.

Delivery prices can be automatically calculated for you within certain limitations.

The delivery address must be in the U.K.
The delivery and installation must take no more than one (1) working day.
The full order must fit on an 18-tonne truck

Any deliveries that don’t fit this criteria will need to be quoted manually to provide you with an accurate delivery price.

Pallet deliveries within the UK can be calculated online for any size job.

Question 50

What about international deliveries?

Accepted Answer

International deliveries cannot be calculated automatically due to a myriad of factors that come into play with delivering large shipments internationally.

Please request a quotation for the project and provide the destination address, our team will quote for those manually.

Question 51

Can I collect from your warehouse to avoid delivery costs?

Accepted Answer

Yes, collection from our warehouse is absolutely an option. Simply select “Collection” in the shipping method before submitting your Project for a quote.

Collection will reduce your lead times by one (1) week. Please keep in mind that collections from our warehouse need to be arranged. Contact your account manager for more information.

Question 53
