Hillsborough Castle, Northern Ireland
The project at Hillsborough Castle was part of a five-year £24 million refurbishment to open the mansion and its estate to a wider audience, to become a major tourist destination.
KKD created the interiors for the Castle’s two key visitor areas: The Lower Courtyard Visitor Centre and the Stable Yard, to appeal to both tourists and locals.
The design of the Lower Courtyard features contemporary industrial touches alongside traditional heritage design cues. We supplied ash table tops and traditional Windsor chairs in natural matt ash finish and industrial style inox table bases in brushed stainless steel to further this effect.
The Stable Yard aims to complement the Lower Courtyard but with a more formal feel, and to establish a visual connection with the main castle by providing a more luxurious finish. Notably, the antique brass of the inox table bases and the silk grey laminate table tops, are in keeping with these features.
